We are all Sons and Daughters

Remember your wives are your Father’s daughters. Remember your husbands are your Father’s sons.

“Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord, for the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. Now as the church submits to Christ, so wives are to submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her to make her holy, cleansing her with the washing of water by the word. He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless. In the same way, husbands are to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hates his own flesh but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church,” Ephesians‬ ‭5:22–29‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

This scripture helps my perspective on how we love and submit to one another in our marriages. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loves His church. Wives are to submit to and respect their husbands. Both ways of treatment and adoration are rooted in love and the ultimate expression of the unconditional Love God commands. We should treat our spouses how we would want our own son or daughter to be treated. We must renew our minds with His word and reframe how we look at our husbands and wives. When we love and submit we are fulfilling the covenant and being good representatives of the structure God created in marriage. Beautiful!

This translates to the rest of our relationships when we are reminded that everyone in our lives ultimately is our Father’s sons and daughters. When we look at each other as His children, there’s more space for the love He has placed within us to be expressed.

Thank you Father for 23 years of marriage that has been rooted in you. We have been far from perfect, but thank you that we have Jesus. Thank you for your word that teaches us and humbles our hearts to want to be more and more like you as life progresses. Thank you for the reminder today that we are all sons and daughters. Amen.
